"TSGS Blog Master is Busy Today"

First, I will be attending the Ohio River Bearcats' fundraiser at McDonald's - "all-u-can eat" hotcakes fundraiser at 7AM! Then to Willard Library to unpack 9 display cases and 2 posters for my Fossils, Gemstone & Mineral presentation for the Ohio Valley SAR Chapter at 10AM. When I get home store all of the display cases in their place and then take down the Halloween yard decorations and pack them up and store them in their place. Then, set up the Thanksgiving yard decorations. Pick-up Becky at 2:30 PM for my instructions of what I need to do for the rest of the day!

Just another day! John G. West

TSGS salutes all U.S. Veterans today!

Ancestry.com has announced that it is providing free search on its U.S. Military Collection through 13 Nov. in honor of America's veterans.

Last night's TSGS meeting...

We had a nice turn out with about 25 people. [Please click on photos to get a larger image... I apologise for the clarity of these photos.*]

TSGS Treasurer Bettie Cook presenting the Treasurer's Report. Bettie also presented a brief overview of Probate Records later in the meeting.
Willard Library's Special Collections Director [Genealogy & History] Lyn Martin gave a report on library news and upcoming events. TSGS President West is to the left and TSGS Secretary Brenda Jerome is seated to the right.
Above, John G. West is leading the discussion group for Genealogical DNA Testing. Mary Lou Bevers, TSGS Program Chair, conducted a discussion group in the Bayard Room concerning Geographical Boundary Changes.

[*I asked a friend to take photos for me last night with my camera which is not easy to use without blurring photos - these were the best. There is a trick to avoid the photos from blurring with my camera which is not easy to do, but the best bet will be for me to get a better camera! - JGW]

Tri-State Genealogical Society Meeting tonight!

You do not need to be a member to attend, we exist to help the beginner and assist the more experienced. Through membership dues, fund raisers and donations, TSGS contributes many research materials for free use to everyone at Willard Library.

At 6:30PM, Mary Lou Bevers will have volunteers available to help individuals with their research... bring what information you have.

The society will have a brief business meeting (anyone may attend) at 7:30PM then Bettie Cook will give a discussion on Courthouse Records. We will afterwards split up into two discussion groups where everyone can join in the discussions if they wish. Mary Lou Bevers will discuss "Boundary Changes." John G. West will discuss "Genealogy DNA Testing."

I hope we get a nice crowd to show up tonight.

Marker/Plaque/Monument Monday

.
Red Banks Trace...

This first marker was posted in this blog 11 May 2009. Evansville's plaque marks the beginning of the Indian trail which goes north to Vincennes. The second two markers are in Vincennes. All three were erected and dedicated on 20 Aug 1966.

The above erected by the Vanderburgh Chapter of the Indiana Society DAR.
The above was erected by the Indiana Society of DAR. I wonder if there is another historical marker at Anthony's Ferry in Henderson, KY?

This last one was erected by the Francis Vigo Chapter DAR.
